Beowulf

Im reading the poem Beowulf at school, and the teacher gave us some questions to answer and i'd really appreciate it if you help me out :)

Lines 1-570

1) In what specific ways does Herot contrast with the place where Grendel lives?

2) In lines 3-13 thepoet describes the bard's songs in Hrothgar's hall. How does the content of th song contrast with Grendel and his world?

3) what significance do you see in the fact that Grendel attacks at night? What images describing Grendel might associate him with death or darkness?

4) Why do you think Grendel haes Herot? what symbolic meaning might underlie the confrontation  between Grendel and Hrothgar?

5) Consider the tale within a tale about Beowulf's swiming match with Brecca. What does this story contribute to your understtanding of Beowulf's character and of his powers?

6) Why do you think its important to Beowulf and to his image as an epic hero that he meets Grendel without a weapon? what symbolism do you see in the uselessness of human weapons agaisnt Grendel?

( You can answer all or any of the questions you choose :) Thanks!)

lol are you serious, you want us to do your homework for you!?!? If I knew who you were, I'd screen cap this an email it to your teacher.

In fact, i'm going to do some investigating and figure it out.

Vital to the poem is the zeppelin imagery in line 300-303b. Dirigibles were an important part of economy and warfare in early Germanic society.

Or, as a fun alternative, you could actually read the poem yourself (it is, how shall we say, not hard), put a little thought into it, and do your own damn homework.

The teacher gave you questions to answer because he/she wants you to actually read the poem and learn something, not to test your ability to make a post to a LJ community and have answers handed to you. (Also, you clearly didn't read the userinfo or a single post because you seem blissfully unaware of the hammer of snark that will rain down upon you from posting something like this in this comm. Seriously, girl.)

Since everyone's tossing acronyms about:

RTFB.

Edit: Additionally, insert an apostrophe between the "I" and "m" of "I'm" and we might let you live.

I'd say you can't possibly be this stupid, but you apparently are on account of not being able to do these questions yourself AND posting them here.

This ain't a high-school chatroom. GTFO.

Oddly, many of us did answer these questions.

For ourselves, when we were in school.

May I suggest you do the same?

Depending on where you go to school, there's an 80% chance that your teacher is reading this entry. In which case they will likely cut your grade for this assignment.

As a more general note, your phrasing of these questions shows no attempt to read and interpret the poem yourself, which is a serious problem for most of the people who'd otherwise be willing to help.

From the community profile:

1. WE ARE NOT HERE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. If you have a 15-page essay due tomorrow about James Joyce, don't make a post asking people to analyze Ulysses for you. Homework posts--both the sneaky and the blatant--will be deleted without notice. If you have questions about why that is, please email a maintainer.

I'll help you!!!

People here sure are mean! Here are the answers you're looking for, in bold:

1) In what specific ways does Herot contrast with the place where Grendel lives? In west Philidelphia born and raised, on the playground is where Herot spent most of their days. Grendel moved on up to the east side, in a deluxe apartment in the sky. Herot was used to chillin' out maxin', relaxin' all cool and occasionally playing B-ball outside of the school. In contrast, Grendel's family owned a dry-cleaning business.

2) In lines 3-13 the poet describes the bard's songs in Hrothgar's hall. How does the content of the song contrast with Grendel and his world? The lyrics of the song in question are, "I love Bumblebee Bumblebee Tuna/Yum yum Bumblebee Bumblebee Tuna/I love Bumblebee Bumblebee Tuna/Love a sandwich made from Bumblebee". Grendel is allergic to tuna! Therefore, there is no tuna in his world.

3) what significance do you see in the fact that Grendel attacks at night? What images describing Grendel might associate him with death or darkness? Pie?

4) Why do you think Grendel hates Herot? what symbolic meaning might underlie the confrontation between Grendel and Hrothgar? Herot is a player, and Grendel is a player hater.

5) Consider the tale within a tale about Beowulf's swiming match with Brecca. What does this story contribute to your understtanding of Beowulf's character and of his powers? Sometimes for fun I chew tin foil. Then I make hats out of it. What?

6) Why do you think its important to Beowulf and to his image as an epic hero that he meets Grendel without a weapon? what symbolism do you see in the uselessness of human weapons agaisnt Grendel? SAN DIMAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RULES!

Use these answers and I guarantee an A++++++ grade.

1) In what specific ways does Herot contrast with the place where Grendel lives?

It is not as nice.

2) In lines 3-13 thepoet describes the bard's songs in Hrothgar's hall. How does the content of th song contrast with Grendel and his world?

It doesn't.

3) what significance do you see in the fact that Grendel attacks at night? What images describing Grendel might associate him with death or darkness?

Night time is the right time.

4) Why do you think Grendel haes Herot? what symbolic meaning might underlie the confrontation between Grendel and Hrothgar?

Because he haes things like Herot so there ya go.

5) Consider the tale within a tale about Beowulf's swiming match with Brecca. What does this story contribute to your understtanding of Beowulf's character and of his powers?

I'll have to get back to ya on that one.

6) Why do you think its important to Beowulf and to his image as an epic hero that he meets Grendel without a weapon? what symbolism do you see in the uselessness of human weapons agaisnt Grendel?

I can see Russia from my house.
